About Us & The Challenge
Team Dave Comprises of the following Dave’s…
- Dave Lewis (very commonly known as “Sparky”)
From Westhope, near Craven Arms in south Shropshire. Sparky (as you might have guessed) is an electrician and self employed at that too! Dave has been cycling for a number of years now, focusing mostly on cross country riding & racing but also dabling in cyclo-cross and some road sportives.
Sparky likes animals & likes to spend time tending to his herds with his dog Jack at his home with wife Sue. But just be careful, because we haven’t broke the news to him yet that he isn’t actually a ‘real’ farmer.
- Dave Price (known by lots of names, but “Pricer” by most of his cycling friends
From Kington, Herefordshire, Pricer is a qualified machinist and cycle mechanic grew up on a very hilly hill on the welsh border between Knighton & Presteigne. He has been cycling intently for the past 10 years, the majority of which he raced downhill mountain bikes before seeing sense (It was a hard knock on the head that did it!) and consequently moved to competitive cross country & road cycling.
Thing is, Pricer is scared of round things that click (like a back wheel) so pedals like a loony trying to get away from it!
.
Starting from Westhope, Shropshire, on the 11th September, we will cycle south to lands end before retracing our route north again back up through Shropshire, continuing north to the most northerly part of mainland Britain, John O’Groats. From there we will turn south back to Shropshire where the ride will finish, thus cycling the length of the country twice.
We will travel un-supported, carrying luggage on the bikes and stop at youth hostels & B&B’s. The ride will be approximately 1200 miles & we have 20 days to complete it in, therefore we will need to average 100 miles a day for almost three weeks!
We want to raise at least £1200 for Air Ambulance. This amount is the cost of the average rescue mission the Air Ambulance flies. They do not get any government funding & solely rely on private funding.
Pricer was fortunate enough to be rescued by the Air Ambulance when he had a major crash at a mountain bike event in south Wales in 2007, and has supported their cause ever since. Thanks to the quick response time only achievable by the Air Ambulance, he was transported to life saving treatment within minutes.
